Updating a Web Page Link

Once you have a web page item created, you are able to change the destination of the codes at any time! This flexibility lets you change campaign destinations, adjust when web sites change, or adapt in case of outages.

Imagine investing time and resources into creating codes for a new product information site and ordering materials for a trade show, only to have the website updated just before the event. Traditionally, this would leave you with outdated materials that appear unprofessional and harm your organization's image. With SSG, you can simply update the link and redirect the Smart QR code to the new destination—no hassle, no issue.

Starting the Edit Process

First, open your web page item and navigate to the update drop down menu at the top of the item details. As shown below, you can click to open the dropdown and see a set of options available. To adjust item settings, such as title, web page link, and other values, simply select the first option.

Other features, such as archiving the item or disabling analytics, are discussed further below.

Clicking the Update Item Details option takes us to the update screen. This is a summary of the item settings and will let you adjust all details, including the title, Link or URL, and the. monitoring options if part of your account plan. The edit screen can be seen below.

Simply change the values desired and SSG will give you feedback as to the status of the item. For example, in the screen below, the user entered a URL that does not exist. It is possible that it may be a private URL for an internal network, for example on a corporate network, however SSG is checking and providing quick feedback to avoid problems.

The warning message shows that the URL may not be correct and allows you a moment to correct if desired.

When the editing is complete, simply click to save the item and return to the item details page.

Archive Item

Items stored in SSG start in an active state, however all of the items that are active will count against plan limits. When an item is no longer needed, you don't necessarily want to remove it and loose the information you have from the item, but you may wish to inactivate it.

When you select to archive an item, it will shift the item to an inactive status and the Smart QR codes, links, and tap tags will no longer direct to a destination. These are retained in the system, in case the item is reactivated in the future.

Disable Item Analytics

If you are working with an item and doing tests, you may not want your activity to impact your analytics on clicks and other actions. Disabling the item analytics keeps the item active as normal, however any view and click engagement activity will not be captured.

To be clear, SSG will monitor site connections as always for security and operational system monitoring, however the standard analytics events will not be captured and stored, keeping your data clean and distinct from any test activities you may peform.

Suspend Item Notifications

Finally, if you have web page monitoring enabled, you may choose to suspend item notifications, which is when SSG will let you know when your site or URL is unavailable. In these situations, SSG will automatically direct users to your backup URL, if defined. SSG keeps track of when the primary web site is down, and when it is available again, and these events are available in your notifications history. This feature simply keeps SSG from sending you these notifications in real-time via email.
